Reflections | Exposed

"You okay?" "I'm fine." How many times a day do you have this conversation with someone a day? How many times does someone else have this conversation with you everyday? Try this: "You okay?" "I'll be fine." Better? Well, that kind of depends on what better is. For one, it is  better on some level, because the other individual in this interaction is acknowledging that there is something that could be made better. [Here I'd like to clarify that every "I'm fine" is not a morose statement in and of themselves. Most people are usually "fine" but sometimes you can tell something else is going on. More on this later]. To come to a conclusion on whether this response is better or not, many factors come into play. Are you close with this person? Do you know whether or not they have the capability to take care of themselves? What I'm trying to get at here is that people don't just randomly ask ...

Reflections | Happy (?) New Year

I know, I know. Cliche titles don't indicate creativity or intellectualism. But sometimes, you gotta rely on cliches to get your point across. Also, sorry for the massive lack of posts. If any of you got access to my dashboard, you'd see about 80+ unfinished posts. So, I haven't abandoned writing, it's just that, most of the time, I realize that the things I write are a) either things general audiences can't handle or b) crap pieces of writing that would make you think I am worse at writing this blog than I actually am. So, I apologize, but you probably don't care that  much. Anyways, it only seems fitting, as a blogger (if you can call me that; haven't quite achieved the title I don't think), that I say a few eloquent (?) words about the year that just passed. This was, quite honestly, the most eventful year of my life. And still, after 2 weeks of nothing but reflection, I don't know whether or not it was mostly for the good or the bad. I c...

Reflections | It's All About Perspective

How do you define reality? Do we dictate what is real? Determine each and every component of our existence, debate, dwindle, and finally decide which parts are real and what is fantasy? Is it all real, and we just label fantasy that which we do not have the ability to cope with/comprehend? I've been having the best time at college. These past few days have been some of the most precious of my life, and I've encountered so many dynamic, energetic, curious and intelligent students, all of them equally as enthusiastic about calling this amazing University their home. Today, on the way back from a massive volunteering project, a few of us had a discussion on Literature. We talked everything from Shakespeare, to classics, to Dan Brown, all the way to The Hunger Games and Divergent. We talked about what actually makes literature one of the elements that holds society together, and the immense amount of creativity and dedication that is required to create world after world. Reflections | Leaving

September 24th Sitting on this flight from Washington IAD to LAX is one of the most daunting things I’ve ever done. I missed my flight by 7 minutes (thanks to people that do not understand the Airport Security regulations) and had to be booked for a later flight. I left home. That place that I called home for the past 18 years of my life has now forever sealed itself as a memory. Of course for me, home wasn’t actually a place. I’ve lived in 14 houses so far, spanning 3 countries and multiple cities. No, we are not a military family. Neither is my father employed by the foreign ministry. But for some reason or other, we’ve never really felt like settling, anywhere. After attending 9 schools and traveling to 18 countries in 18 years (and counting), I can officially employ the “nomad” label. This lifestyle actually started even before my older brother was born; our parents had already moved in the double-digits by the time my mom got pregnant for the first time. Then wh...
