Figments | Sinners

At Court

"I am the ruler, the supreme being. How dare she cross me? ME!?!? Her flaw, her mortal flaw, is to question my authority in such a time of turmoil. There is a great evil, one that is dawning, and I am the vanguard of justice and redemption in this hopeless world, and she dare try to impede on that authority? This will not rest. That it will not."

"Theo darling, everyone knows exactly what their position is when they stand in front of you. If she chooses, if she dares, then she knows that her position is not below you. But that is her folly. You know better, you can convince her to know better. There's no reason to fret. You know Sage is yours to conquer, that she is yours to behead. Nobody will stand in the way of that."

"Yes, mast
er," says Vy, lounging in a loincloth on a futon placed on top of a pedestal. Vy is a being of few words, fewer action. But when vocalizing, every ounce of every phrase is measured, precise, delivering a message with such clarity that no further interaction be necessary.

Theo speaks, and the subjects listen. "You, my dear Heedra, are the reason I can keep up with these peasantous sentiments. I will see to it that that gust of wind does not blow Susan out of my grasp."

In the Forest

"I can feel it, the rush that I get when someone is about to be conquered, to be consumed over and over again."

"Patience, my love. Good things come to those who wait. At least, that's what they in that world out their say."

"As if. Where did the belongings of this cottage come from, if not from your uncontrollable desire?"

"Will you educate me on the nuances of uncontrollable desires?"

"I mentioned the word 'education' not once."

"Halt. There is no need for bickering. Let us act out your Sage encounter."

"Yes, Let us act."

At Sea

"My liege- forgive me my liege- I... I am here to inform you, my liege, that your enemies knock at your door."

"Evaporate, unsightly being. I have set aside your feast for the day."

"Apologies, my liege. Evaporate I shall." Whoosh he went.

"This has been a long time coming, Theo. Let us test out what the heavens have in store for us."

From the shores of the tiny island arises a gust of wind, rushing toward her majesty, the ruler of the sea, with unstoppable speed and intent. It hits, and quickly vanishes.

Under the Drawbridge

"Word travels. You've planted your paramour at the arms of a great power, I hear."

"It is all in good fun. With her conquest of our majesty, the stage of our duel is set."

"Who knew that in Calum would I find an ally to my cause?"

"As long as you heed my warning to not put much faith in a scoundrel such as myself, we can have so much fun wreaking havoc together."

"I do not have time that which to waste. Must continue whispering sweet nothings in the ears of that blubbering idiot about his power and influence."

At Sea Palace

In the grand ballroom, every inch of the grounds have been defiled. Robes and jewelry trail to the piano on the stage, where the female figures lay entwined, molded together as ethereally as possible.

"Lovely Lucille, you have tamed the beast. In your arms, I am content."

"The pleasure has been mine, to serve, and pleasure."

"You are unquenchable."

"Oh, this is but the beginning. There is much more play ahead. What say you, we travel to the Clouds?"

"As out of my element as ever? That will not do. My battle ground is here, at sea."

"But, my liege, he will not come, not to you. The primary engagement must be yours."

"He will understand what it means, to face me on a dueling grounds. What say you, we pick your residence of choice for our match?"

"Once you have rightfully claimed all of Paradia, we will make love until the sunset, high atop some lush and gorgeous bougainvillea."

At Court

"Word has traveled to my ears that she has already tamed the beast. 'Lovely Lucille,' they call her."

"Enough. I will no longer withstand this foul-play. Lucille will bow to me, and Sage will give me what is mine. With you by my side, I will combat her in The Forest."

"Neither yours, nor hers. This is a rather rational choice of location."

"Soon, when you sit on that throne, you will rest in peace knowing your beloved has provided you with all that is visible to the mortal eye."

"Soon can never come soon enough."

"Master, a word?" proclaims Vy.

Up in the Clouds

"Does this marriage satisfy my end of our bargain, Calum."

"Yes, my Queen. But shall he ever find out, he will have my head."

"Then we shall keep this information ours, these clouds our only witnesses."

"One can hardly be sure."

In the Forest

"Here we meet at last. You, peasant, answer me. Where do you gain the courage to defy my rightful throne?"

"I am but a servant of my own flesh."

"I will tend to your future, in the future. For now, at last, I come face to face with the one that challenges my ascension. Speak, witch. What is it you oppose?"

"You, bastard, have seized my brother's birthright, merely through a show of force, and not a shred of legitimacy. Therefore, as in any court, there shall be justice. Caleb!"

Out from behind a bush, Caleb's hunched over body emerges, and begins tossing leaves in the direction of the King. At first, nothing.

Slowly, but steadily, builds a slight breeze, with the leaves themselves rising up and tormentingly circling Theo. He stumbles, just a little, and this is all that Sage seeks. Theo sinks into the earth, inch by inch, the quicksand ruthlessly pulling him in.

"Your deeds have been punished, and your worst fear has come alive. The very earth you seeked to conquer, has consumed you instead." With manic passion, Sage rejoices at the sight of the boisterously beautiful body of Theo be engorged into the ground.

"Heedra, my love, save me."

"Unfortunately darling, this has to happen. Rest assured, what was once ours- yours- is now mine."
-----------------
"Darling, I have emerged triumphant, and together, with you in my arms as I sit on that throne, we will rule."

"I am afraid, I have not been entirely faithful. Though I enjoyed our escapades in the loudest of ways, my heart belongs to another. You must be disposed."

On the account of trend, out emerges a gust, slowly building to a tornado, and heads towards Sage with vicious speed, knocking her back into the trees.

Shocked. Propelled by betrayal, Sage's true form emerges, and the rest of the players stand stunned as she transforms into a giant, emblazoned creature.

In the resulting aftermath of the back and forth between the temporary lovers, fire proves no match for the wind, and Lovely Lucille's tornado puts out the flame until only embers are left.

"Lover, you have displayed your fierce loyalty. I hope I can do the same someday. For now, our royalty, our possessions, I hope will keep you satisfied."

"Nonsense. You know all I need is your flesh to satisfy me," Lucille replies to her lover's monologue.

"Enough. I will have this no longer." Heedra pulls out her bow and arrow, as if from thin air, and shoots straight for the lover's heart. And it hits, taking away the soul of the one that lived to serve her flesh.

"No. NO! You wench. This was not in our plan!"

"If I cannot have you, why should some mere girl from the valley get to? That is not done."
Calum is beside Heedra in a heartbeat, and as quickly as she had pulled the bow, so does he, with his own knife, slitting her throat open, and bathes in the outpouring of green liquid from her body.

"I have lost that which was dearest to my heart. O cruel world, what more will you throw my way."

At Court

"The council-members of the royal court have reviewed the marriage licenses, agreed upon among the clouds. They have discovered that there were no humans or creatures that bore witness to this agreement, therefore, nullifying it. In addition, for participating in the shared crime of adultery and polygamy with his deceased Highness' lady, the council finds Calum guilty of treason to the highest degree, warranting death by hanging. Furthermore, it has been established by the council that the royal servant Vy served most closely with our former Lord, and since he left behind no offspring, the servant will ascend the throne."

All the way in the back of the court, Caleb sits, nibbling away at some morsels of bread, wondering who will now provide to satisfy his cravings.

Perspectives | On Therapy

I am grateful to my therapist and to myself that I embarked on this journey. There is no shame in me accepting this opportunity to grow, and I will add increasing mental health service access to my long list of contributions I want to make to this world before I meet my maker.  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hey ya'll! I'm going to try a new posting schedule for my blog, once a week. This is because 1. I love writing and almost never do it without being prompted and 2. my therapist tells me routines are good. Overview Speaking of therapy, let's speak. I started going to therapy when I was a Junior in college, coming off of the 2016 presidential election. Born and raised in Bangladesh, where mental health is not a topic worthy of being discussed, I was not taught to think of myself as someone who "needed" therapy. This kind of thought process stems from social conditioning, which makes us feel like if we are not capable of dea...

Perspectives | As Fathers, Brothers, Husbands, and Sons

These words are not a revelation, and they are not original. The credit for arming me with this capacity for discourse goes to the eloquent women in my life and victims of any form of harassment in general. Thank you for sharing your stories and your feelings.  Content Warning: sexual assault, sexual harassment ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There are more Harvey Weinsteins in the world than not; this is fact. As men, we continuously contribute to a society where everyone that isn't born male, identifying and presenting male, feels threatened, because for generations upon generations, power structures have benefitted them for nothing other than the fact that they were born male and decided they were fulfilled remaining that way. Social Media is powerful, proven by the #metoo campaign and its far-reaching range, roping in stories from individuals all over the globe that have experienced some form of sexual harassment or sexual assault. More often tha...

Reflections | We Know More

Being present in discussions of other communities with the intention to learn and not contribute, allows us to create these bridges we keep speaking of, because once we understand another group/individual's struggles, the links with our own become so much clearer. If we only pool our resources together in this manner, then maybe we can work towards a place where we truly understand each other's needs and advocate for the collective, not just our individual struggles. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If ya'll have been keeping up with my multiple instagram posts (follow me @thirdworldjar thx), you'll know that I was in Sacramento over the past weekend. What I haven't talked about yet is why I was there, and so I wanted to take some time and elaborate on that, and my experiences in the city in general. First of all, I honestly fell in love with Sacramento. The beautiful, organized streets, the tram, the cold-ish weather- checked off all ...
